UTC Climate, Controls & Security serves customers in a range of industries around the world - and one characteristic remains consistent across every aspect of our business: Leadership.
Leadership is at the root of our company, with founders who invented entirely new solutions and brands that pioneered entire industries. Today, many of these same brands continue to be among the largest, most innovative and highly regarded in their respective industries.
At UTC Climate, Controls & Security, we are leaders when it comes to preservation of our natural environment, and support for the communities in which we live and work.
Before sustainability was at the top of most minds, we established corporate-wide environmental goals for our factories and operations. We also pioneered products that consume less energy and incorporate innovative materials. We recognize the responsible balance between the technology we provide today and the world we live in tomorrow.
We are the only company in the world to be a founding member of Green Building Councils on five continents. We were also instrumental in launching the U.S. Green Building Council® (USGBC®) in 1993 and were the first company to join the organization. Today, we continue to be at the forefront of the green building movement.
Redefining what’s possible begins by changing the way people think about the world. UTC Climate, Controls & Security is committed to leading the global dialogue on topics ranging from the green building movement to improving the cold chain and feeding a growing planet.
UTC Climate, Controls & Security was the first company to license the USGBC’s LEED curriculum. We are also proud to have been named an Education Partner. We work closely with the USGBC to deliver best-in-class education that is driving the transformation to healthier, more sustainable places to live, work and play.
We also lead by example through the development of energy-efficient products. Innovations such as Carrier’s CO2OLtec™ Integral solution, which uses the natural refrigerant CO2 and fully integrates refrigeration, heating and cooling systems, are leading the way in advancing efficiency and sustainability.
We are committed to solving the challenges of tomorrow through research. For example, estimates show as much as one-third or more of food we produce each year is never eaten due to spoilage and waste, representing 3.5 billion metric tons of CO2. With this in mind, we have expanded our sponsored research, including a partnership with the University of Nottingham to define the potential value of reducing global food waste through improvement of the temperature-controlled food supply chain.
Of course, leadership isn't about what you can do on your own - it's about working together for something greater. Launched in 2011, the Distinguished Sustainability Lecture Series brings together Otis Elevator Company and UTC Climate, Controls & Security, in a collaborative program with international universities and communities. The lecture series is designed to convene sustainability thought leaders and international building industry experts to transform the built environment. Through discussions of the economic and health motivations for green building and future sustainable building trends, we are striving to make our world a better place to live today - and for generations to come.
As a world leader, UTC Climate, Controls & Security is proud to give back to our communities through education, volunteerism and charitable giving. Since 1994, we have built more than 140 Habitat for Humanity® homes around the world, including the U.S., South Africa and the Philippines. We have also partnered with Habitat® on green building events for affordable, energy-efficient homes. Habitat for Humanity provides safe and affordable shelter for families in need. Today, Habitat has helped build or repair more than 800,000 houses and served more than 4 million people around the world.
UTC Climate, Controls & Security's Green Shoots program is a community outreach initiative that focuses on promoting sustainability for early education students. Employee volunteers teach interactive science and health classes to enhance environmental stewardship and healthy living habits. Since 2011, more than 1,000 employee volunteers have established the Green Shoots program in rural primary schools throughout mainland China, India, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, benefiting more than 10,000 children.
